World Environment Day 05/06/2025
On World Environment Day, our country reaffirms its commitment to continue working with other relevant actors in the negotiation, implementation, and fulfilment of obligations undertaken under the various instruments to which the Republic is a party. It also invites continued joint efforts towards sustainable development for all.
Uruguay has built a leading position in international efforts to protect the environment, including combating climate change, protecting biodiversity, and reducing pollution.
Our ministry supports the message of the Ministry of Environment and the commemoration of Environment Month by the government as a renewed opportunity to highlight, reconsider, and take action regarding our individual and collective practices. It is also an occasion to call for action and raise environmental awareness beyond borders through foreign policy and in international forums.
This World Environment Day commemorates the start of the first conference on this topic, which took place in Stockholm in 1972.
